The Nokia 9210i Communicator is a business workhorse designed for use by professionals on the move. A QWERTY keyboard combines with fast internet access, email and a range of office applications to enable the Communicator phone to function as a miniature laptop.

Improvements added since the older 9210 include more memory, an improved Web browser that supports frames, Javascript�, Macromedia Flash Player and RealOne Player for video and audio streaming, and a content-sensitive pointer that allows easy scrolling.

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) client allows mobile corporate users to establish secure, reliable, trusted connections from their Nokia 9210i Communicator directly to their corporate Intranet.

Compatibility with a broad range of office applications is a key strength of the 9210i Communicator. The email application supports most attachment types, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MS Project, Lotus, and is compatible with a very wide range of mailserver types. The calendar and contacts tools are also compatible with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Schedule+, Lotus Notes, Lotus Organizer, Oracle Collaboration Suite and SyncML remote synchronization.

A very powerful tool, but as with its predecessor, bulk and weight are its key disadvantages. Now replaced by the Nokia 9500.

The Nokia 9110i as well as the Nokia 9110 have now been discontinued and replaced by the newer Colour version, the Nokia 9210 communicator.

The Nokia 9110i Communicator - with support for WAP services

The newer Nokia 9110i Communicator continues to support www-browsing and e-mail like the older Nokia 9110 Communicator, but the new add-on WAP services application software now allows users to access mobile information services created for WAP-enabled phones.

Nokia Communicator

This evolution of the Nokia Communicator highlights the blurring of boundaries between the Internet and mobile networks. Mobile Internet services such as banking, news or ticket bookings can be easily accessed using a WAP browser. Access to these services is made even easier and more convenient for Nokia Communicator users thanks to the device's large display and keyboard. As many WAP based information services designed for WAP compliant mobile handsets emerge in many countries, these services will now be accessible for Nokia 9110i Communicator users as well.

The new WAP browser will be supplied as add-on software, and it is recommended that the application is installed on a memory card for use in the Nokia Communicator. Memory cards for Nokia 9110 Communicator and Nokia9110i Phone are available as separate accessories.

The WAP services application is supplied with the Nokia 9110i Communicator and is aimed to be available during the third quarter of 2000.

New features of the Nokia 9110i Communicator:

WAP services application

The WAP services application enables the Nokia Communicator to access Internet-based WAP content. The application, when properly installed, can be used with any existing Nokia 9110 Communicator. It is recommended that the application is installed on a Memory card. Memory cards are supplied as separate accessories.

The application is accessed by pressing the Internet application button on the Nokia Communicator keyboard, and selecting WAP services.

WAP pages can then be viewed using the Nokia Communicator's large display.

Large Screen

Using WAP services on the Nokia9110i Communicator is easy. The Nokia Communicator's large screen allows you to read a lot of information at once, which makes browsing the mobile Internet much faster.

Access points

The settings for the access point (service provider) must be made before use of the WAP services application can begin. The Nokia Communicator can store multiple WAP access points, enabling easy access to WAP services in different areas.

Bookmarks

Your favourite sites can be saved as bookmarks, and each bookmark can use a different access point. You can also select any of your bookmarked sites as your home page.

Sony Ericsson W880i announced

The Sony Ericsson W880i has finally been formally announced. The device was previously dubbed Ai in rumors and was even featured in a few " spy shots " officially released by Sony Ericsson back in January. All the commotion was for good reason, at just 9.4mm thick the W880i is the thinnest phone [by a fair margin] Sony Ericsson has produced. As a Walkman branded handset, the W880i features a sophisticated music player and playback keys.

The smaller stature doesn't take away from features though, the W880i is well equipped:

In advance of the 2007 3GSM World Congress, the Sony Ericsson W610i has been announced. The W610i is another model in the popular Walkman branded line of music phones. With Apple's recent announcement of the upcoming iphone there has never been more buzz about music phones. Apple may be getting a lot of ink, but Sony Ericsson has been the most successful manufacturer actually selling music phones.

BOLEH dikatakan setiap jenama telefon bimbit dilengkapi dengan fungsi permainan video pada peringkat asas sebagai pelengkap spesifikasi gajet masing-masing.

Namun tidak ramai pengguna telefon bimbit yang begitu menikmati permainan video ini kerana ia agak membosankan selain tidak banyak pilihan permainan video yang menarik.

Bagaimanapun, perkembangan teknologi telekomunikasi terutamanya teknologi generasi ketiga (3G) bakal membawa permainan video telefon bimbit ini menjadi medium multimedia yang paling menghiburkan.

Ia bakal dibuktikan menerusi usaha syarikat penyedia kandungan interaktif telefon bimbit tempatan iaitu MNC Wireless Berhad (MNC) yang memperkenalkan permainan video telefon bimbit yang boleh dimainkan oleh beberapa pemain secara masa sebenar.

Dibangunkan dengan kerjasama sebuah syarikat permainan video dari Singapura, Nexben Studio, permainan video yang dikenali sebagai Elven Legends itu membolehkan pengguna telefon bimbit 3G merasai pengalaman bermain video di telefon bimbit pada kualiti komputer atau televisyen.

‘‘Ia bakal membawa revolusi baru dalam dunia permainan video telefon bimbit yang sebelum ini hanya boleh dimainkan oleh pemiliknya tetapi kini boleh dimainkan oleh beberapa pemain di seluruh dunia,” ujar beliau ketika ditemui di pejabatnya di Kuala Lumpur, baru-baru ini.

Mengambil tema permainan video yang paling banyak dimainkan ketika ini iaitu peperangan satria zaman silam menentang kejahatan, Elven Legends turut membariskan beberapa pilihan pahlawan yang boleh dimainkan.

Pahlawan itu dibahagikan kepada tiga kategori iaitu Forest Elves, Dark Elves dan Great Elves dan pemain akan bertarung sesama sendiri sehingga ke satu peringkat tertinggi.

Pemain juga boleh membentuk identiti pahlawan mereka sendiri seperti pakaian, kawasan, senjata dan sihir dengan memilih ciri-ciri berkenaan yang telah disediakan.

Sepanjang pertarungan itu, juga pemain berpeluang meningkatkan kuasa mereka menerusi senjata atau sihir yang diperoleh sebagai ganjaran serta pelbagai spesifikasi permainan lain termasuk peta dan emotikon yang menarik.

Intel menghasilkan cip prosesor yang mampu melaksanakan satu juta kiraan sesaat atau prestasi pada kekuatan 1.01 teraflops, menggunakan kekuatan tenaga 52 watt pada frekuensi 3.16 GHz. Ia menyamai kekuatan supercomputer yang ditempatkan di Makmal Kebangsaan Sandia, ia memerlukan ruang sebesar 180 meter persegi, memanfaatkan 10,000 prosesor Pentium Pro menggunakan lebih 500 kilowatt tenaga elektrik. Cip berkenaan yang masih lagi pada peringkat penyelidikan memberikan evolusi baru kepada semua pihak terutama pihak industri yang memerlukan prestasi tinggi tetapi pada masa yang sama menggunakan tenaga yang rendah. Verizon Wireless has gotten into the Valentine's day spirit by launching the Pink LG Chocolate. Technically the shade is called Strawberry, but we've never seen strawberries quite this shade. The Chocolate is also available in black, white, red and green. Color is the only differences among the models, much like with Motorola's various shades of RAZRs.

Upcoming Motorola phones revealed by executive

Motorola's Ron Garriques, president of mobile devices, recently gave anxious investors a sneak peek at the company's upcoming handsets.

As expected, many of Motorola's upcoming announcements will be 3G handsets. The phones revealed in Garriques' presentation are 3G versions of previously announced handsets:

KRZR K3 - Existing KRZR with 3G and second camera for video calling
RIZR Z8 - Tweaked design of the RIZR with UMTS or HSDPA (not noted)
Q EDGE - GSM version of the original Q
Q² - Updated Q in both HSDPA and EV-DO versions, expected at 3GSM

Garriques also mentioned the upcoming SCPL (Scalpel) line of handsets. The presentation notes that these devices will be broadband capable, but does not hint at a launch date. Motorola has been talking about SCPL for over a year and it was originally believed to be the successor to the RAZR (which the KRZR ended up doing instead).

Nokia has today announced the Nokia 9300, a smartphone for business professionals. We noted rumors of the 9300 two weeks ago. It's a Series 80 device and runs on the Symbian 7 OS. All apps that work with the Communicator 9500 will work with the 9300. Features of the Nokia 9300 include:

Nokia Communicator now ships with antivirus

FB-4 today announced that its Symbian based Virus Guard will be included on all Nokia Communicator 9300 and 9500 devices sold in North America. Virus Guard is Symbian certified, and is also available on Series 60 and UIQ Symbian devices.

The application receives virus updates completely wirelessly through FB-4's over-the-air distribution network, removing the hassle of updating. Virus Guard will be preloaded on the memory cards supplied with the Communicator phones.

The Nokia 9500 Communicator with FB-4 Virus Guard will be available in the Americas in the first quarter of 2005.

YouTube videos coming to Nokia N-Series handsets

3GSM World Congress -- Nokia has inked a deal with YouTube to bring the popular video sharing website's videos to users of Nokia's N-Series handsets. The videos will be accessible through Nokia Mini Map Browser and a soon-to-launch mobilized version of YouTube. YouTube's main site uses Flash video but the new mobile site will utiliz H.264/ AVC

"We are thrilled to be giving users easy access to entertaining YouTube videos anytime and anywhere. By partnering with an industry leader like Nokia, we're able to bring YouTube videos to mobile phone users worldwide," said Steve Chen, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer for YouTube.

Interestingly enough, Adobe announced earlier today that the next version of Flash Lite will support Flash Video.

3GSM World Congress -- The Nokia E61i was the third new E-Series handset announced at 3GSM this year (see Nokia E65 and Nokia E90 Comunicator for more info on the other handsets). The E-Series is Nokia's business targeted handset vertical and the phones ship with more mobile email and productivity apps than the multimedia-centric N-Series. The E61i is an update to the E61, a"BlackBerry Killer" that was announced back in October 2005.

Signalling By Satellite : The Orbiting Reflector

To send a radio beam in a truly straight line across the Atlantic would need incredibly high masts; as it was Marconi had trouble building a mast 60 metres high for his first transatlantic transmission. In the end, he was able to 'bounce' his signals off the electromagnetic layers of the atmosphere. But this only works for certain wavelengths - and would be impossible on the frequencies used for TV signals, which are not reflected back to earth under normal conditions.

The way around this is to bounce the signals in a more organised way, by using satellites as mirrors out in space. The satellites take in the narrowly beamed signal and then direct it back to Earth - so that anyone with a dish and suitable receiver in the satellite's coverage 'footprint' can receive it.

When you can't put a wire between two places, you can use wireless. It is possible to send signals through the air, using electromagnetic radiation in the form of radio waves. Radio can also connect people who are moving around - on a ship, on foot or in a vehicle.

In the right circumstances radio signals can be sent and received across great distances, but the range is not unlimited. Radio waves decline in strength over distance and are subject to interference from other sources.

Directing radio waves accurately is not always feasible; they tend to travel outwards along straight lines from the transmitter and may not follow the curve of the Earth.

Signalling By Electricity : Along A Wire

The first form of modern telecommunication - the electric telegraph - sent electrical currents along wires. That basic technology is still being used today - but in vastly more sophisticated forms.

You can send signals over hundreds or thousands of miles this way - but the range is not unlimited. The electrical resistance of the wire saps signal strength, so that eventually it will be too weak to be picked up at the receiving end.

Getting around this problem means using stronger currents, thicker wires that are more 'conductive' (allow the current to pass more easily), or amplifiers at intervals along the line to boost the signal's strength.

The other limitation with signalling in this way is that you need to put a physical piece of cable between the sender and receiver. That's almost always hard work and expensive - and sometimes impossible. The alternative is to use radio.

Visual signalling : as far as the eye can see

For thousands of years, people have used visual signalling systems such as flags, semaphores, lights, fires, smoke and sunlight reflected by mirrors (the heliograph).

If the signal is big or bright enough it can be seen over 20 miles away - the maximum distance is achieved when both the sender and receiver are standing on tall buildings or hills (the natural curvature of the earth is the limiting factor).

But that is on a clear day. In heavy rain, snow or fog visibility may be restricted to only a few hundred metres. (Messages sent by optical telegraph from Whitehall were often sent by horse to the first station outside London, the visibility in central London was so bad!)

The furthest we used to be able to send a signal was as far as the eye could see, or the ear could hear. So the 'maximum transmission distance' was a few miles.

Now we can send signals to the far reaches of the solar system - many millions of miles. The trouble is that it takes many days or even years to get there...

Some types of signals are based on making a noise that can be heard a long way off. The air raid sirens of the Second World War were a way of signalling by sound - using a rising and falling siren to tell people that enemy bombers were on the way and a steady note to give the 'All Clear'.

Other types of sound signals include bells, horns, guns, or the tom-tom drums used by tribes in Africa, New Guinea and South America to pass messages.

The trouble with sound signals is that the range is so uncertain. In clear country and with no other background noise, a gun or siren could be heard several miles away. But in a noisy city, with trees or buildings in the way, the sound might not be heard at all.

Nokia melancarkan tiga model telefon bimbit di bawah rangkaian E-Seris iaitu model Nokia e61i yang dilengkapi peranti e-mel, Nokia E65 dan Nokia E90 Communicator yang dilengkapi semua keperluan perniagaan berteknologi tinggi. Kaliasvuo berkata, kesemua model itu direka dengan mengguna pakai perkhidmatan generasi ketiga (3G) dan teknologi sambungan rangkaian setempat tanpa wayar (WLAN) menggunakan tapak perisian S60 yang fleksibel. Kesemua model terbabit dilengkapi kamera binaan dalam berkualiti tinggi. Nokia E65 sudah mula berada di pasaran terpilih dan akan mula dijual secara meluas pada suku pertama tahun ini manakala Nokia E61i dan Nokia E90 Communicator akan menjengah pasaran menjelang suku kedua tahun ini. Empat Syarikat Tawar Komunikasi Internet Terbaik

INDUSTRI tanpa wayar yang memastikan pengguna mengemaskini blog, memindah turun gambar ke laman web, berbual secara maya dengan rakan dan mencari lokasi restoran menggunakan telefon bimbit, kini mendapat sambungan pantas seperti yang diimpikan.

Ketua Penyelidik Informa Telecoms & Media, Mark Newman, berkata ketika industri komunikasi mudah alih semakin berkembang, banyak syarikat mencari model perniagaan baru kerana industri komunikasi mudah alih, internet dan telekomunikasi kini bergabung antara satu sama lain.

“Apa yang pasti adalah, telefon bimbit akan memainkan peranan penting dalam kehidupan sosial dan kerjaya kita pada masa depan,” katanya.

Dianggarkan pengguna telefon selular dunia berjumlah 2.2 bilion dan angka itu dijangka meningkat kepada tiga bilion dalam tempoh terdekat.

Bagi membolehkan penyatuan antara Internet dan telefon selular berlaku, beberapa syarikat antarabangsa seperti Vodafone, Yahoo, Microsoft dan Google bekerjasama menghasilkan aplikasi yang boleh dimanfaatkan dalam telefon selular.

Baru-baru ini, Vodafone memeterai perjanjian dengan Yahoo! Inc, Microsoft Corp dan Google Inc untuk menyediakan perkhidmatan berasaskan laman web seperti perbualan maya, blog peribadi dan pemetaan kepada penggunanya.

Vodafone dan Yahoo! bersetuju meluaskan kerjasama mereka dengan memasukkan perkhidmatan perbualan maya ke telefon bimbit dan komputer peribadi.

Perkhidmatan itu akan disepadukan dengan tujuan untuk mengurangkan jurang antara telefon bimbit dan komputer, termasuk menghantar mesej daripada satu laman web ke laman web lain.

Ketua Pemasaran Global Vodafone, Frank H Roevekamp, berkata syarikat mengumumkan akan menyatukan dunia mudah alih dan komputer peribadi kepada pelanggannya tahun lalu, sekali gus menawarkan komunikasi Internet terbaik kepada pelanggannya.

Pada masa sama, Naib Presiden Kanan Yahoo Connected Life, Marco Boerries, berkata perjanjian itu adalah tanda peningkatan kepentingan pasaran telefon mudah alih kepada gergasi laman web yang berpangkalan di California itu.

Katanya, usaha sama itu penting kerana telefon bimbit memainkan peranan penting kepada pengguna untuk berkomunikasi dan dan berhubung dengan komuniti Internet mereka.

“Gabungan kepakaran Vodafone dan Yahoo! bermakna kami akan mampu menyediakan pengalaman menarik dan bererti kepada pengguna sama ada di telefon bimbit atau komputer peribadi mereka,” katanya.

Beliau berkata, kesemua perkhidmatan itu dijangka ditawarkan dengan kos tambahan, tetapi bergantung kepada rangkaian dan sama ada terdapat harga dengan yuran kadar rata.

Dalam pada itu, Vodafone dan Microsoft berkata, kedua-dua syarikat sedang bekerjasama membangunkan perkhidmatan perbualan maya dwi-jenama yang boleh diakses daripada komputer peribadi dan telefon bimbit, menggunakan Windows Live Messenger.

Naib Presiden Kanan Microsoft’s Online Servives Group, Steve Berkowitz, berkata orang ramai mahu kekal berhubung dan sasaran syarikat adalah memberikan perkhidmatan mesra pengguna yang membolehkan mereka berhubung dengan individu.

Microsoft turut memasukkan aplikasi Live Search dalam telefon pintar Windows Mobile 6, Britain, menerusi model Nokia siri 40 dan 60.

Model lain yang akan memuatkan ciri teknologi pencarian global itu termasuk siri, Motorola RAZR dan SLVR, Samsung dan LG.

Google, yang dikatakan penganalisis sebagai ancaman kepada pengendali telefon mudah alih kerana saiz dan dominasi, mencapai kesepakatan dengan industri mudah alih di Persidangan GSM baru-baru ini, dengan melancarkan versi Java, program Google Maps yang boleh dimuat turun untuk Vodafone.

Naib Presiden Operasi Eropah, Asia Barat dan Afrika Google, Nikesh Arora, berkata sasaran syarikat adalah untuk membatu orang ramai mendapatkan maklumat yang dicari serta memberikan pelanggan Vodafone peluang untuk mencari lokasi ketika sedang mengembara adalah langkah penting.

Perkhidmatan carian bermula Disember lalu di Hungary tetapi akan diperluaskan ke seluruh pasaran Vodafone di Eropah tahun ini.

Laman web perkongsian video syarikat itu, YouTube, turut mensasarkan industri mudah alih. Awal minggu lalu, Nokia menjelaskan ia akan meletakkan video laman web itu ke telefon bimbitnya melalui pelayar web di laman telefon bimbit YouTube.

YouTube turut memeterai perjanjian dengan Vodafone yang akan menyaksikan pengguna di Britain, dapat mengakses laman web terbabit secara terus melalui telefon bimbit.

Sebagai salah satu perkhidmatannya, YouTube akan menyediakan koleksi pilihan harian video terbaru, yang mana pelanggan akan dapat menghantar penghubung video digemari mereka kepada rakan, memindah turun koleksi sendiri ke telefon bimbit dan mencari pelbagai kategori.

Tambah Audio Ke Laman Web

KEBANYAKAN telefon bimbit yang dikategorikan sebagai Telefon Pintar mempunyai kemudahan untuk menerima dan menghantar e-mel. Namun kebanyakan pemiliknya tidak menggunakan kemudahan itu.

Mereka tidak boleh dipersalahkan kerana pengunaan kemudahan itu tidak menjadi tanggungjawab pembekal kemudahan, terpulang kepada pengguna untuk menggunakan kemudahan itu.

Sebenarnya tidak sukar untuk membolehkan pengguna menggunakan kemudahan itu.

Ada beberapa perkara penting yang perlu diketahui sebelum e-mel boleh dibaca di telefon bimbit.

1. Alamat pelayan penerimaan e-mel [WINDOWS-1252?]– POP Server

2. Alamat pelayan untuk menghantar e-mel [WINDOWS-1252?]– SMTP Server

Alamat POP Server [WINDOWS-1252?]– POP Server atau Post Office Protocol Server adalah lokasi bagi semua e-mel yang dialamatkan kepada kita. E-mel itu akan disimpan di sana sehingga ia dicapai menggunakan perisian seperti Outlook atau Foxmail.

Jika masukkan maklumat alamat POP ini di telefon bimbit dan yang mempunyai kemudahan sambungan ke Internet seperti GPRS, EDGE atau 3G, secara tidak langsung boleh mencapai dan membaca e-mel menggunakan telefon bimbit.

Alamat pelayan POP biasanya boleh diteka daripada alamat e-mel. Sebagai contoh jika alamat e-mel anda adalah nama@syarikat.com.my maka alamat pelayan POP anda kemungkinan besarnya adalah pop.syarikat.com.my.

Dengan memasukkan maklumat ini di dalam telefon bimbit berserta dengan kata laluan, anda boleh membaca e-mel yang tersimpan di dalam pelayan POP melalui telefon bimbit.

Jika ingin membalas e-mel atau menghantar e-mel yang baru, anda perlu tahu alamat pelayan penghantaran pula. Alamat pelayan penghantaran boleh diteka berdasarkan alamat e-mel anda.

Jika alamat e-mel adalah nama@syarikat.com.my, maka alamat pelayan SMTP anda kemungkinan besarnya adalah smtp.syarikat.com.my.

Masukkan maklumat SMTP itu ke dalam ruang pelayan penghantar e-mel di dalam telefon bimbit berserta dengan kata laluannya, dan anda akan dapat menghantar e-mel terus dari telefon bimbit.

Jika anda mempunyai masalah untuk mendapatkan alamat POP dan SMTP atau syarikat anda tidak membenarkan SMTP dicapai dari luar, saya cadangkan anda menggunakan kemudahan e-mel percuma gmail.

Hantar Faks Guna Modem PC !

TEKNOLOGI faksmili atau faks sudah diterima pakai perniagaan di seluruh dunia. Kebanyakan syarikat mempunyai nombor faks sendiri. Untuk menghantar dokumen dalam bentuk faks, seseorang perlu ada mesin faks dan talian telefon.

Mesin faks berfungsi dengan mengimbas dokumen yang dimasukkan ke dalam mesin faks yang mana maklumat ditukarkan menjadi bentuk digital dan seterusnya dihantar menggunakan kaedah bunyi kepada peralatan faks penerima.

Mesin faks penerima pula menukarkan semula maklumat yang dihantar di dalam bentuk bunyi itu ke dalam bentuk digital dan seterusnya mencetak maklumat di atas kertas.

Sebenarnya kita juga boleh menghantar faks tanpa menggunakan mesin faks. Ia boleh dihantar secara terus menggunakan modem yang sedia ada di dalam komputer kita.

Untuk menghantar faks menggunakan modem komputer, kita hanya perlukan perisian yang membolehkan dokumen ditukar ke format faks dan seterusnya dihantar melalui talian telefon kepada mesin penerima faks yang biasa.

Dengan cara ini kita boleh menghantar faks di mana sahaja kita berada asalkan ada talian telefon.

Terdapat banyak perisian yang boleh digunakan untuk menghantar faks melalui modem, antara yang popular perisian MightyFax yang boleh diperoleh di www.mightyfax.com.

Jika anda menggunakan komputer laptop yang modemnya sudah sedia dipasang, penghantaran faks menjadi lebih mudah.

Selepas perisian dipindah turun dan dipasang di komputer, anda hanya perlu menyambungkan talian telefon ke modem berkenaan. Pastikan talian itu talian yang boleh digunakan oleh telefon biasa, kerana talian telefon digital yang terdapat dikebanyakan pejabat atau hotel mempunyai tenaga elektrik yang boleh merosakkan modem.

Jika talian yang digunakan memerlukan anda menekan nombor 9 terlebih dahulu, maka tambahkan simbol koma (,) selepas angka 9 yang mana ia akan mengarahkan modem untuk menunggu selama dua saat sebelum mendail nombor seterusnya.

Penyambungan dua skrin ke satu komputer

SISTEM Operasi Windows dan Apple membenarkan lebih dari satu skrin ke sesebuah komputer. Untuk komputer dari jenis desktop, Kad Grafik Video perlu ditambah untuk memberikan satu alat tambahan penyambungan ke skrin baru.

Bagaimanapun, tiada kad tambahan diperlukan untuk komputer dari jenis laptop.

Apabila skrin tambahan digunakan pada komputer kita, langkah pengaktifan diperlukan untuk membolehkan skrin yang kedua digunakan. Untuk mengaktifkan skrin yang kedua, langkah yang berikut perlu dilakukan:

1. Pergi ke menu Start > Control Panel

2. Pilih perisian Display > Setttings

3. Klik di atas Skrin bernombor 2 dan pilih arahan Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor

4. Butang Identify boleh ditekan untuk anda memastikan yang sambungan semua monitor adalah sempurna. Jika semuanya sempurna nombor 1 akan dipaparkan di skrin pertama dan no 2 akan dipaparkan di skrin kedua.

5. Secara automatik skrin kedua perlu diletakkan di sebelah kanan, jika skrin kedua perlu diletakkan di sebelah kiri maka klik di atas skrin nombor dua dan tolakkannya ke sebelah kiri.

Teknik ini juga boleh digunakan apabila membuat persembahan menggunakan Projektor, dengan teknik ini, aktiviti yang dilakukan di desktop tidak lagi akan dipancarkan di projektor.

Kongsi sambungan ke internet

SAMBUNGAN ke internet boleh dikongsikan dengan cara mudah tanpa perlukan perisian tambahan jika menggunakan Sistem Pengoperasian Windows 2000 atau XP.

Dengan perkongsian sambungan itu, komputer lain boleh mengakses sambungan internet yang digunakan tanpa membuat bayaran tambahan.

Ada dua perkara yang perlu dilakukan sebelum sambungan internet boleh dikongsikan. Pertama penetapan di bahagian perisian dan kedua ialah penambahan perkakasan di bahagian sambungan.

Bahagian pertama, perisian:

Anda perlulah mengaktifkan arahan supaya sambungan internet boleh dikongsi. Untuk itu ikutilah arahan berikut:

1. Pilih: Start > Control Panel > Network Connections

2. Pilih sambungan Internet yang ingin anda kongsikan dengan menekan butang tetikus sebelah kanan di atas sambungan terbabit.

3. Pilih: Properties > Advanced > Klik Allow other network to connect through this computer’s internet ccnnection dan pastikan anda memilih Local Area Connection jika ingin memberikan kebenaran untuk internet itu diakses melalui LAN.

Bahagian kedua perkakasan:

Komputer peribadi (PC) anda perlu ada pelabuh LAN. Bagaimanapun, kebanyakan PC dan laptop kini mempunyai pelabuh itu. Jika tidak mempunyai pelabuh LAN, anda dikehendaki menambah kad LAN. Kosnya kurang daripada RM50.

Jika sudah ada pelabuh LAN, satu perkakasan yang diperlukan untuk membolehkan perkongsian oleh beberapa komputer ialah Switch. Harganya kira-kira RM120 bagi Switch yang mempunyai empat pelabuh.

Jika ingin berkongsi sambungan internet menerusi teknik tanpa wayar atau konsep WiFi, anda hanya perlu membeli peralatan yang dinamakan Wireless Access Point. Dengan cara ini pengguna lain boleh mengakses sambungan internet anda asalkan mereka ada kemudahan WiFi.

Dengan adanya semua peralatan dan pengaktifan perisian ini, sambungan internet di komputer sudah dikongsikan dan boleh digunakan oleh beberapa komputer lain serentak.

T9 menaip lebih cepat di telefon bimbit :)

BUTANG papan kekunci pada telefon bimbit tidak seperti butang papan kekunci komputer, kerana ruang kecil yang amat terhad. Oleh itu, satu butang terpaksa dikongsi dengan beberapa huruf.

Kita terpaksa menekan butang beberapa kali untuk mencari huruf yang dikehendaki. Ini melambatkan proses menaip maklumat apabila menggunakan telefon bimbit.

Sebagai contoh, untuk menaip perkataan “SAYA” butang nombor 7 perlu ditekan empat kali untuk mendapatkan huruf “S”, butang nombor 2 ditekan sekali untuk huruf A, butang nombor 9 perlu ditekan tiga kali untuk huruf “Y” dan butang nombor 2 ditekan sekali untuk huruf “A”.

Keseluruhannya, sembilan kali tekanan diperlukan untuk menaip perkataan “SAYA” yang hanya mengandungi empat huruf.

Sebenarnya kebanyakaan telefon bimbit mempunyai kemudahan meramal perkataan yang hendak ditaip dengan membandingkan susunan butang yang ditekan menerusi kamus yang tersedia di dalamnya.

Kemudahan meramal itu dinamakan T9. Ia wujud, tapi jarang digunakan kerana cara pengunaannya kurang difahami. Jika salah cara penggunaannya, kemudahan yang sepatutnya memudahkan ini, akan jadi menyusahkan pula.

Untuk mengaktifkan kemudahan T9, langkah berikut perlu dilakukan:

1. Masuk ke ruang menulis SMS

2. Tekan ‘Options’ > ‘Dictionary’ atau ‘Writing Language’

3. Pilih Malaysia

Apabila T9 sudah diaktifkan, ikon pensil di sebelah atas skrin SMS akan bertukar. (Tip: teknik mudah untuk mengaktifkan T9 ialah dengan menekan butang # dua kali dengan cepat, untuk menghentikan kemudahan T9 ini tekan butang # dua kali dengan cepat).

Untuk menaip “SAYA” di dalam mod T9, anda hanya perlu tekan butang 7-2-9-2. Tapi, sebelum perkatan “SAYA” dipaparkan anda mungkin dapat melihat perkatan seperti “Saw” dan “Sax” dipaparkan di skrin semasa menaip.

Jangan berhenti menaip kerana perisian T9 sedang cuba meneka perkataan apa yang mungkin anda ingin taipkan. Apabila keseluruhan perkataan yang anda ingin sudah dipaparkan, tekan butang “Space” untuk mengesahkan perkataan itu mulakan menaip perkataan baru.

Kemungkinan ada juga perkataan yang anda inginkan tidak dipaparkan walaupun sudah berhenti menaip keseluruhan perkataan, seperti perkataan “PARAS” apa yang dipaparkan adalah “PASAR”.

Jangan bimbang kerana terdapat perkataan yang sama bilangan huruf dan kedudukannya. Jika itu berlaku, anda hanya perlu menekan butang “*”. Jika perkataan yang seterusnya juga bukan perkataan yang anda inginkan, teruskan menekan butang “*” hingga perkataan yang anda ingin dipaparkan.

GO BACK IN TIME AT TELEKOM MUSEUM AND BROWSE THROUGH THE HISTORY OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS IN THE COUNTRY

Standing among Kuala Lumpur's skyscrapers at the junction of Jalan Raja Chulan and Jalan Gereja is a unique two story building of Neo Classical Greek architecture.

Built in 1928 to house the Central Battery Manual Telephone Exchange, this building with eight imposing pillars as its dominant feature was gazette for conservation in 1985 after the Prime Minister stepped in to stop it from being demolished to make way for a new 26 story office complex.

Over 10 million was spent in its restoration.

Today, this 70 year old building, houses the record of the nationís telecommunications history and is the first interactive museum in the country.

Known as the Museum Telekomunikasi Negara or National Telecommunications Museum it captures 120 years of telecommunications development, from the early days of the Morse Code Telegraph with is "ketuk-ketuk" to the cellular phones and digital networks of today.
